Countryside tour of Cameron Highlands, Malaysia – 22 July 2022

Finally the van arrives to collect me on Friday 22 July. After making a few stops to pick up other people, the last one being Nicki, we are off. First stop is a Butterfly Farm.

The butterflies are HUGE!
There are lots of other things to look at – some I walk straight past!  Moths, leaf insect, stick inset, far too big bugs, snakes, rabbits, baby goats, peacocks, hens, Guinea pigs, hamsters, frogs and American bullfrogs.

We have a photo stop on the way to the Tea Plantation. Tea plants for Africa! The two-way road is extremely narrow in parts so I’m glad to be out of the van for a bit.

We continue along the road to BOH Sungei Palas Tea Garden
. Unfortunately due to Covid the factory is closed, only the cafeteria and gift shop is open. We get dropped right at the door - everyone else needs to park in the car park and walk up. A walk would have been nice.

We join the long line to get a cup of tea. The views sitting drinking it are great. Really reminds me of the tea plantations in Sri Lanka.

Back in the van we go, seems to be slower going back due to the increase in cars.

Our next stop is at Rose Valley, a rose and other flower garden. We wander around the roses and other flowers.

As we have time to spare Nikki and I walk up and down the road looking at the roadside markets - all selling fruit, vegetables and flowers.

Our next stop is Royal Berry, a Strawberry Farm.  Some in the group choose to do pick your own, I elect just to wander around. There are more strawberries than I thought there would be.

Feels like we drive a hop, step and a jump away to Bee Maze.

As we walk in the door to the Bee Maze we are given a small spoon of honey to taste. While I’m not really a honey person I thought it best to try given I’ve woken with a sore throat. I’m putting it down to the change in temperature. It was tasty!  We are given a super brief intro.  I elect not to walk the bee maze, don’t want to be getting any bee stings thanks very much.

To exit you need to go through the gift shop, in this case there are a number of shops. I buy a stock of ginger honey. Think it will be good for my throat.

Back on the road again, the traffic going in the opposite direction is bumper and bumper. Really hope it’s not like this when I leave on Sunday to return back to Ipoh.

The driver / guide pulls to the side of the road and asks if anyone wants to look around and buy anything from the market. We all say no, so continue back to Tanah Rata.

I decide to get dropped off in the town rather than back at the hotel. It’s been a great morning seeing more of Cameron Highlands.
