Playa Larga, Cuba – 27-28 March 2019

We depart our Casa at 8.30am on Wednesday 27 March - for me its bye bye Habana, I’ll be back in a week or so. It’s off to Playa Larga (for one night) we go.

The first thing we notice when we get into the car is that it has seat belts. Brilliant.

We cruise down a three lane highway for 45 minutes before stopping for the driver to have coffee. It’s nice to be outside in the sun and heat. .

We continue a few more minutes down the road where we stop for the bathroom.

Two hours 20 minutes after leaving La Habana we arrive at our Casa in Playa Larga. As we were driving down the “main” street it’s becomes very apparent it’s going to be nice and chilled here. Perfect!

Our bags are carried up the one flight of stairs for us. We are informed the room is still being made up from last night’s guests, no issue at all. The lady then shows us the room. There is one double and one bunk bed. Hmmm not quite appropriate. She takes us down the stairs to check out the other room. Aah this one is better - two beds, large changing room and bathroom with a door. The upstairs bathroom had a shower curtain between the bathroom and bedroom.

We decide to head into the main area to pick up another WiFi card for Manda and some stamps. A few minutes from our Casa we decide to turn down a side road which looks interesting.

As we continue down it takes us to the beach. WOW! The photos won’t do it the justice it deserves.

We stop at one of the restaurants for a cold drink. It’s super-hot!

We decide the post office can wait for another day and as our WiFi cards worked there isn’t a need to go and buy more. For now we head back to our Casa - time to get our togs on and head to the beach.

Walking back onto the beach is beautiful. This end of the beach is a little quieter than where we were before. Both are very very quiet though!

Manda wasn’t feeling the best so we decide on a Western lunch. This way at least we won’t be served enough food for a small army.

It’s so picturesque sitting here staring out to the sea. This really is the life!

We have the afternoon on the beach under coconut trees....at times moving to either get in or out of the sun. This is the life.

Dinner had been arranged for 7pm. Prior to that we wander down the road to buy some water. The shop we had seen earlier is closed so after sitting on a park bench to watch the world go by (horse and carts, cars, motorbikes and bicycles) we ask one of the restaurants. That’s a no. Fingers crossed we can get some in the Casa.

Dinner is served up on the terrace.

Thursday 28 March I wake just after 6am, another early start. I had been woken just after midnight by a group of men chatting super loudly for 45 minutes outside our Casa. Fingers crossed this doesn’t happen tonight.

I head outside at 7am, ooh it’s chilly. But totally blue sky so will be another beautiful day in Playa Larga.

I head out for a run at 7.40am. While the sun is out it’s still a little chilly.

Half way during my shower the water completely stops.....after a while it starts to dribble out. Showering this morning definitely takes longer than normal!!

Breakfast is enjoyed upstairs on the terrace.

I’m not ready to leave! When we drove in yesterday I said I could stay here for a week, if only. Next time! For now it’s off to Cienfuegos we go.
