Monday 15 July 2024 I wake well before my alarm.
I’m off to Tokyo for work. I typically don’t write blogs for work trips but
with the food I’m going to eat I decided it was necessary!!
Once we finally get up in the air the flight passes by quickly.
It’s a bit of a mere when I get to Tokyo. Going through \ immigration and customs takes
soooo much time! But I get there in the end! We were delayed leaving HK due to
a carpet issue, then got stuck with air traffic control. Got to love sitting on
a plane for an extra hour…….
Thankfully the taxi trip passed by with no issues.
I met a friend for drinks at the hotel before
walking around the area (Ginza) to find somewhere for dinner. It’s a public
holiday today in Japan so a lot of the places are closed.
In the end we decide on a sushi restaurant. The only space is sitting at the counter - perfect.
I walk to the office on Tuesday 16 July. It’s only 26 degrees so quite pleasant, but quite humid. Walking into the office I forgot that they don’t have their a/c on arctic like we do in Hong Kong.
My breakfast (each morning) is an egg sandwich, iced coffee and cut up apple pieces. I’m in for a huge shock when I return to Hong Kong, when I need to do breakfast myself.
For lunch I go with two colleagues.
Within two minutes of walking out of the office building at the end of the day the heavens well and truly open - rain is coming at me at all angels. Far from pleasant! I am so pleased I grabbed an umbrella before getting in the lift. I continue walking, Tonkatsu is calling my name.
I had researched earlier a couple of places to go for dinner. Google maps is telling me I’m here but I can’t find it. In the end I ask someone if they speak English - I’m told “a little”. Bingo! As soon as she she’s the name of the restaurant we are off, just around the corner. We laugh at how I’d been walking up and down in the pouring rain.
Thankfully I’m the only person in the line. I’m given a menu and within seconds have selected what I would like. The wait for a table isn’t too much longer.
It doesn’t disappoint. YUM!
Wednesday 17 July I walk to the office again. On arrival regretting my decision, it takes me forever to cool down.
Lunch is with a colleague. While it was good, it was non-Japanese 😒
I have dinner with 3 colleagues. Great fun, good food and sake.
Thursday 18 July I walk to work again….I’m a sucker for punishment.
Lunch is with a colleague.
For dinner, another colleague I met up.
Friday 19 July I elect to taxi to work. Too hard with my suitcase, even though it’s small. The sun is starting to rise as I leave the hotel.
Early afternoon I take a taxi to the airport. It’s been another great week in Tokyo, but I’m looking forward to going home and having a quiet weekend!! I will return.
