Tuscany wine tour, Italia – 28 July 2024

Jenn and I arrive at the meeting spot (on Sunday 28 July 2024) a few minutes earlier than needed.  We both hate being late!!  I had booked us a wine tour in the Tuscany countryside through the same company I'd used many years ago for the Bologna Food Tour (which was outstanding).

After waiting 10 minutes past our departure time our tour guide / driver decides enough is enough and we depart without the remaining 2 people. Perfect, we are 5.

Our first stop is at Piazzale Michelangelo, which is a large piazza with panoramic views of Firenze.  I’ve been a few times but always happy to come back.  Even better is being here without the hordes and hordes of other people.

Back into the car we head and drive a good hour to Corbucci Winery.  Corbucci winery is a family-run business in San Gimignano, which has been producing premium wines forever.

We enjoy wine tasting although with some delicious food.
Finishing off with a limoncello.  Probably a bit too early but hey ho.

As we leave the homestead we stop in the vines to take photos looking at San Gimignano
.

Back onto the road we go, to San Gimignano
. We are taken to the main square, then told to meet back at the entrance in one hour.

It’s hotter than hell, so where possible we walk in the shade.
Jenn and I have both been here so there isn’t anything touristy we need to do.  Instead we try one of the famous gelatos, it doesn’t disappoint.

We wander around a bit more before the heat gets too much!  Time to take shelter under an umbrella with an Aperol spritz.

Back into the car we go, where we drive to our final stop of the day. Another winery for lunch and wine. It’s nice to be in an air-conditioned car!!!

On arrival at Fattoria Poggia Alloro we are shown where the wine is made.

At the “house” we are taken to the table.  It is beyond hot!  The fan is doing nothing at all to cool us down.  Soooo uncomfortable.  If only we were able to jump into the swimming pool.

Lunch is tasty but again too much with the heat!  Out of the 4 wines we had to taste / drink only one was nice.  Very different to this morning’s wines.

I’m actually pleased when it’s time to head back to the car – this means sitting in air conditioning for at least one hour.
  Firenze here we come.

On arrival back into Firenze we wander away from the river to search of a bar.  It’s nice to be in the shade. A few blocks away I hear someone calling my name – rather surprising given I don’t know anyone in Firenze.  Turning around its Becca who was on our tour.

The heat is starting to get to me, I leave Jenn and Becca at the bar and walk back to the hotel. Snapping photos of doors along the way! See my doors of Firenze blog.

It’s heavenly walking back into the hotel. It’s been a fabulous day in the Toscana countryside but for now I need to be inside and cooling off.
