We arrive at the Novotel Saigon Center on New Years Eve 2024 three hours after leaving Can Tho. Pretty good given the traffic was busy basically the whole way up.
Mum and Dad’s room is ready now, mine won’t be for a few hours. No problem.
We literally drop the bags, get the laundry then Dad and I go off in search of the laundromat I had researched.
Back to the hotel and the a/c. It’s definitely hotter up here than Can Tho that’s for sure.
At 4pm I go downstairs to get a coke (caffeine is needed!!) then my room. I’m asked to sit down and they will come to me. Never a good sign. A few minutes later a lady appears and tells me my room still isn’t ready and they need another 30 minutes. Aaah. Usually, I wouldn’t care but not feeling good I do want to lay down.
Back to Mum and Dad’s room it is.
Finally I get my room.
Mum started to feel unwell so it's just Dad and I for dinner. We take a Grab there.
Ngoh Restaurant (also goes by other names) is my go too whenever I’m in Saigon and I know Mum and Dad have been here before too.
We decide to walk back to the hotel. We still have time to kill before collecting the laundry so it makes sense.
We have about an hour back at the hotel before heading off to collect the laundry.
I’m amazed at how good the street lights are! I had fully expected to be holding my phone as a torch the whole way.
We have a couple of minutes wait before we have clean clothes!!! A few minutes later we find our bags and we are heading back to the hotel.
The first NYE’s in a very very long time where no alcohol was consumed and the only thing I wanted was sleep.
New Years Day I wake just before 7am. Thankfully I had got some sleep last night and am feeling a million times better than I was yesterday morning!
We meet for breakfast just before 8am. It’s nice not rushing.
Check-out is easy but they insist on checking our rooms before we can leave the hotel. Luckily we have time!
The Grab arrives within minutes of booking and less than 20 minutes later we are at the airport. Amazing!
Now the fun beings! The immigration lines are ridiculous!!! I wait with Mum and Dad for a while before going down the APAC lane.
I then locate them and wait by their counter. You wouldn’t want to be running late for your flight here!!! We really should have put Mum in a wheelchair and she would have been straight through.
Security is another long line, but at least the line is moving. Once through we go straight to the gate to wait.
Goodbye Saigon, it’s been short. I know I’ll be back at some stage.
