Macau – 10-11 June 2017

I meet Monica at Schragels (bagel shop) at 7.45am on Saturday 10 June….one needs to prepare oneself before a ferry ride and a day of drinking. Ok let’s be honest it’s for the day of drinking! We are off to Macau for the night to celebrate Lauren’s birthday.

Mon had brought us tickets to the 8.30am ferry, nice and early! Seats sorted, we join the others waiting for the gates to open. Boy it’s hot.

The ferry is delayed arriving into Macau, which is surprising given we departed on time. Unfortunately the black clouds seem to have followed us. Fingers crossed the rain stays away.

It’s a fast walk off the boat through to immigration – we want to beat the crowds. Based on the others walking / running we aren’t the only ones with this idea. No need to rush as there are MANY lanes to join.

We leave the comfort of the air conditioning and head outside to locate said shuttle bus to the hotel. As we board spits of rain start, this wasn’t on the plan for today so I hope it doesn’t last.

On arrival at the hotel we are told it’s too early for check-in so head off to the cabanas; we had booked one for the day for Lauren’s birthday.

It’s a chilled day in and out of the water – heaven! The hotel is part of the Galaxy complex which has what I would call a mini water park. We have a lot of fun going down the three different water slides and the lazy river.

Within what seems like minutes it’s time to leave the cabana and go to check-in. A few false starts (smoking floors…..) we are finally in our room. WOW!

Due to the hiccup in the rooms we have hotel transfers to and from the restaurant for dinner.

Dinner is delicious sushi and sake – great end to a fabulous day.  On arrival I notice the table next to us have a large pile of money just hanging out….clearly they have either just come from the casino or are about to go. How the other half live!

On arrival back to the hotel the boys go to the ferry pier to head back to Hong Kong; Mon, Lauren and I take a taxi to the Hard Rock Café as the birthday girl wanted to dance. The night club (which we have to pay to enter) is far from pumping….which we were told it was. So after doing a walk around we decide to leave. Many conversations later we walk away with a full refund. Crazy!!

Thankfully there was a bar just around the corner so off we go. Of course this doesn’t go quite to plan either – all we want is a drink, but alas no. Time to call it a night and head back to the hotel.

Sunday I finally wake at 8.30am; Mon and I head out for a walk around the mall. The shops are all closed but the casino is open with people already there. Or perhaps they are still there from the night before??!

We all meet for breakfast then slowly pack up before checking-out and taking a taxi to Fernando's. Lunch definitely doesn’t disappoint!!

Its soooo crazy hot it’s straight to the sea we head. The water is far from clean; in fact I’d say it’s more like brown water. We have a couple of hours here before the hotel car collects us and takes us to the ferry pier. I could do with another day of just relaxing but alas no, time to head back to Hong Kong.
