The bus is loooong today. Takes over an hour and a half. I’m glad to get off!!
Thankfully the next ferry leaves in 15 minutes so after a bathroom stop we purchase tickets then follow everyone else to get on board. On entering vivid memories of the chunder Moana (inter islander ferry) come flooding back. I head straight outside!
The ferry ride goes as smoothly as it can. It’s windy as so we move to a sheltered area but still outside.
On arrival we join the masses in a “line” for the bus to Victoria. You would think the busses would meet the ferry but alas they do not.
We had discussed going on a hop on hop off bus but decided against it - we have had enough time on a bus already today and we still need to repeat the journey to get home. Instead we decide to head to Victoria.
It’s not a direct bus to Victoria so we get to see parts of Gozo, small bonus.
On arrival into Victoria we wander towards the Citadel and Cathedral, stopping en-route for a tasty salad for lunch.
The walls of il-Kastell (citadel, castello) of Victoria has been around since the 15th century. Inside the walls now house a Cathedral, museums, the old prison and tourist shops.
Wandering around the walls its crazy windy! Definitely hold onto your hat wind.
We wander back down to the main part of Victoria and around the narrow streets. Similar to Valletta the houses have coloured doors and balconies.
We come to a side entrance of the Cathedral. Due to the sign on the door Susan enters - I remain outside as I’m wearing shorts and a sleeveless t-shirt.
We continue to wander around the narrow streets - at times being the only ones around. Bliss.
There is a 20 minute wait for the bus back to the ferry port so I decide to wander around the corner to see what’s there. Bingo a bus in less than 10 minutes, result!! This means we should make the 3.45pm ferry not the 4.30pm one we thought we would be on.
The bus seems to be on a direct route to the pier (great!) - 20 minutes later we arrive and have 15 minutes to the ferry is due to depart.
The chunder Moana departs about 10 minutes late. It’s rather peaceful sitting here watching the water with a breeze. Thankfully nowhere near as windy as we had going out!
On arrival back to Malta Island we check the bus timetable and have 20 minutes to the next bus. Buggar! I decided a snack was required for the bus.....need something to pass the time. On exiting the terminal Susan spy’s a #41 bus sitting there. Legs move from a walk to a run - bingo we are out of here earlier than planned!
Each stop we come too there are so many people waiting to get on the bus. I’m so pleased we got on at the start of the route!! We were well home by this time yesterday so didn’t see this. After 2 or 3 stops the bus is full and no longer makes stops. Let’s hope this continues for a while!! Although the bus is ridiculously slow.....it’s like something is wrong with it. Sooo thankfully to be sitting down!
We finally get to Valletta - seems like the longest bus ride in history!! Susan advises it wasn’t as long as this morning, definitely seemed sooo much longer. It’s nice to finally get out and stretch our legs!
Gelato is purchased for Susan then we just wander the streets.
