We jump on the 9.18am train to Assisi - it's a quick 24 km trip. On arrival we purchase bus tickets then join the others waiting for the next bus. Thankfully not too long to wait.
A lady tells us it's best to take the bus all the way to Piazza Matteotti then walk down to the town. Mum needs a break from the hills so this option works well for us.
Assisi, in Umbria, is an UNESCO world heritage hill town and birthplace of Saint Francis (one of Italia’s patron saints).
We meander through the town, stopping along the way at numerous places (some more famous than others).
Cathedral of San Rufino
Fontana dei Tre Leoni

The Basilica of Saint Francis of Assisi really stands out!
According to Wikipedia, The Basilica of Saint Francis of Assisi is a Papal minor basilica and one of the most important places of Christian pilgrimage in Italia. The UNESCO world heritage site was begun in 1228 and built into the side of a hill. We enjoy wandering around and inside the large complex.
Food is needed before we head down to the train station (to go back to Perugia) - lots of options but nothing that is calling us in! Finally we choose a place which has pizza and beer. A great combination.
It's been a great few hours in Assisi.
