Last Friday (August 31, 2007) Sarah (friend who lives in London, who use to live in NYC) and I headed down to Fort Lauderdale, Florida. We arrived in the day light and were quite taken back with the humidity! Certainly knocks you for a six.
Our hotel is located on the beach and close to a few restaurants/bars. Nice to be able to go out of the hotel to eat. After checking in we headed down the road for dinner. There were lots of people around, some bars were totally not our scene!!!!
Saturday we woke early and went for a walk/run along the boardwalk. For those of you been in humidity before you can imagine we were sweating like no tomorrow!!!! Got our breakfast from the great breakfast place we found last year. We were both very happy it was still there!!! Spent the morning at the beach - swimming, reading and more importantly relaxing!!!! For lunch we wandered down the road...by this stage we needed some air conditioning so didn't think twice about sitting inside. Afternoon was spent very much like the morning but it was by the pool, until later afternoon when we headed to the sea.
I loved how warm the sea was, and how clear it was! Just wonderful. Dinner we had at the hotel we stayed at last year. We had had a good meal so decided to go back. Food was good, service was interesting!!!!
Sunday morning started normally for us - walk/run then breakfast at 'our spot'. We spent the morning at the beach. In the afternoon we did a tour to the Everglades, a rare subtropical ecosystem. We were fortunate to see quite a lot of wildlife, including a few Florida Alligator. The youngest being 7 months - very cute I thought!!!! Sarah thought she was about to be attacked/eaten as at one stage an alligator was coming directly toward her. I found it amusing given the past two days the fish have been attacking her in the sea. The remainder of the afternoon was spent relaxing by the pool. For dinner we took the local sun trolley to a shopping/eating area. Went to a great Japanese place that had been recommended to us by the hotel. Food was great.....service a tad slow :-)
Monday started with a walk/run then breakfast. As like the previously mornings we had a quick "shower" in the pool then headed to the beach. It was hot!!!! Lunch was had sitting around the pool, then Sarah left me to head back to NYC for work, poor her!!!! The rest of the day was spent reading by the pool, I'm not sure I'll be taking my return flight back.
Tuesday morning started (you guessed it!) with a walk then breakfast. I spent a couple of hours at the beach before heading back to the pool area where I had lunch then unfortunately had to get ready to head to the airport :-( I understood what Sarah had been saying about being attacked in the water….as the fishes came after me! It certainly gives you a fright more than anything else.
Three and a half days of relaxation really was wonderful!!! I'm wondering when I can plan another little trip :-)
Hope this finds you all well and happy. I'm heading to Puerto Rico this Friday morning for the weekend, however it is for work so not as glam as it sounds.
PS For those of you that don’t know, I will be moving to Hong Kong in mid November for a new job. Am very excited!
