Shanoukville, Cambodia – December 30 2010 – January 3 2011 and Phnom Penh, Cambodia - January 3-4 2011

We pull into Sihanoukville exactly 4 hours after departing Phnom Penh (on 30 December), pretty good considering we had a 30 minute break. The roads were SO much better than I had expected and thankfully the driver hardly used his horn at all!

Here's to a few days of chilling out!

I drop off my bags and head straight out for some lunch. The first thing I notice is how hot it is then I'm struck by how quiet the place is - brilliant!

I head down to the beach front, around 3 minutes away, and straight away wish I hadn't. Manicure / bracelet / massage / food - please please go away! I want one day without all this so think tomorrow I'll
be at my hotel most of the day. Constantly being spoken to too buy something really gets to me.
I have a couple of hours at the pool, with no interruptions I must add before having an early night - too tired for dinner.

Last day of 2010 (where on where has the year gone??) I spend the whole day at the pool - pure bliss! Lots of reading and getting in and out of the water. I venture out for lunch but return straight away to resume my position :)

Early evening I kick off NYE's with a cocktail from the hotel bar - 5 hours later the barman’s friends arrive and I go off to the beach with one of them. The place is packed! Fireworks are being let off left right and centre - no worries if someone is in the way.....health and safety clearly hasn't made it here yet!!!

Within minutes of turning into 2011 the place empties, I'd been told that all the locals pack up and go home the second it's all over. It's definitely a different feel now. I manage to stay until 1am then walk back to the hotel. A great night with some lovely people in an amazing location!

New Year’s Day I head out to one of the beaches for the day, Otres. It's so much quieter than the beach by the hotel thankfully! The water is super clean and very inviting. It's lovely chilling out with the waves hitting the beach in the background.

Early evening a couple of the people I met came and collected me. I had my first ride on the back of a motorbike with one other person - rather scary but fun as well.

Sunday 2 January I spent the day at the pool engrossed in a book about life in Thailand. Definitely opened my eyes to a thing or two!

At night I met up with the same people from last night for a couple of hours before having an early-ish night. I'm not built for 1am finishes anymore!

Monday I'm up early, after breakfast had about an hour at the pool before having to pack up.
I was picked up by the bus at 1.40pm, I'm heading to Phnom Penh for the night before going to Siem Reap tomorrow. Finally got into PP 5.5 hours after leaving, a very long journey!

I managed to get a tuk tuk very easily to the hotel, checked in then met up with Laurelle and Tony for a few minutes before going to meet up with one of the people I met on Saturday night.

We had a couple of drinks at a bar near the hotel before going to the FCC - if I lived here it would become my local hangout.

Tuesday morning I'm up early, breakfast then we are collected by the bus company and taken to their depot. Finally depart for Siem Reap 20 minutes late, ooh well better late than never!

Believe it's now a 5-6 hour bus ride....

I've enjoyed my time in Phnom Penh and Sihanoukville and could quite easily live in PP.
