After crossing into Thailand (January 10) we get a tuk tuk to the bus station - it's a tight squeeze with four of us and the luggage. Thankfully the journey isn't too long. I definitely prefer the tuk tuk's in Cambodia as you can easily see out of them.
After DJ (who we met on the boat from Siem Reap to Battambang) and I brought our bus tickets the four of us go to have coffee and food. DJ and I are heading to Bangkok - him onto Phuket via overnight bus, me all going well flying up to Udon Thani where I'll spend the night then go into Laos in the morning. Now just hope the 4 hour bus ride isn’t more than 4 hours otherwise it could mean a night in Bangkok.
We arrive at the bus station in Bangkok 4 hours and 20 minutes after leaving, not too bad considering. After trying to be scammed into a super pricey taxi I spy the legit taxi line. I think I have an F1 driver as he speeds down the road to the airport. Thank goodness he doesn't have gloves on like my Shanghai F1 driver did a few years ago!
At the airport I check the Thai Airways and Air Asia ticket offices then make my purchase with Thai Airways - so much cheaper than Air Asia, which surprises me. I have around 3 hours to kill before my flight to Udon Thani. Time for some breakfast and lunch :) Am super pleased I've made a flight but am a little nervous about what next when I land as I haven't booked a hotel.
On landing in Udon Thani the lady next to me was very kind and rang the one hotel I knew about. From what I understood they had space, phew. As I was waiting for my pack she came running back to say the hotel's van is here and will wait for me. There is someone else on the plane staying there and had booked a pick-up, great for me!
After checking in I chilled out and made good use of my 24 hour wifi pass. It's been a very long day but I'm very glad with where I've got too. Now time for some serious shut eye!
Tuesday morning I have a bit of a sleep in before breakfast (which was gross!!) then take care of my admin. It's amazing how much you have to do when you are travelling.....booked my ticket back to NZ for my sister’s wedding, extended my storage unit among other things.
I'm a bit checky and get the hotel's van to the airport to catch my "limo" (time will tell what this means although I know for sure it won't be a limo as we all know it) to the Thai/Laos border. The time works out so well so I think why not! Saves me a few Baht too.
I'm off to Laos for about a week before returning to Thailand to chill on a beach somewhere - boy it's a hard life.
