Miami, USA - May 26-29 2006

Ruth and I flew down Friday afternoon (May 26, 2009) to Miami from New York JFK (after having a couple of glasses of wine in the lounge, oh to have the membership!) Its a three hour flight and after having issues on landing we finally got to the hotel after 10pm, dropped off our bags and walked down the road for dinner. The humidity was just unreal.....we were dripping just standing outside the airport waiting for a taxi.

Saturday I woke early (for the weekend that is) so decided to go for a run along the broad walk - as you can imagine there were so many people out and about. The day was spent lying by the swimming pool reading, oh pure bliss! I think I managed to work to the sea at one stage and have a swim there. Certainly a lot more refreshing that the pool but both were so nice!
Saturday night we took the bus to South Beach. Certainly an experience and one I'm not sure I want to go through again. Firstly we were SO over dressed and we really didn't have that many clothes on (sleeveless shirt and skirt); secondly we weren't drunk and thirdly we weren't walking down the street with a snake hanging around a shoulders. There were SO many people as well. We finally found a place to have drink and eat that wasn't too packed and there wasn't a cover charge. Two guys decided to sit next to us and started chatted - after awhile we decided we had had enough so got the check (bill) and low and behold our neighbors did a runner. Lets just say the waiter wasn't pleased and blamed us, like we knew them. After being yelled at we decided he wasn't going to get a tip.
Well then the yelling really started so off we went! Managed to find the bus stop then the heavens opened like there was no tomorrow. Finally managed to run and jump on only to literally crawl along at a rapid pace of a snail. Ruth decided she needed the bathroom so jumped off, found somewhere and just as the driver was telling me to get off and wait for her as the travel had finally cleared (we had moved about 10 blocks in 50
minutes) she ran on. I was very pleased!!!! Finally made it home a little wet and rather tired.
Sunday we had a bit of a sleep in then went for brunch at the Bel Harbour (note the "u" in harbor) shops which were basically across from our hotel.
It was straight back to the pool for me for more sun bathing, reading, sleeping and swimming. What a great life!
That night we went to a great Italian restaurant at the Bel Harbour shops.
Luckily there was no bus needed and the rain stayed away.
Monday (Memorial Day vacation) I went for a super short run. It was just far to hot and humid. Breakfast in the Hotel then (surprise surprise) back to the pool for the remainder of the day. Left the hotel just before 5pm when the weather was beginning to turn for the airport. Checked in and straight to the lounge for a shower - finally felt normal :-) until my flight was delayed over an hour. I went standby but unfortunately missed out on that too all the people who had missed their flights during the day. Finally left Miami at 10.20pm and landed in Newark, New Jersey at 1am. Not a great start to the week but oh well. Jumped in a cab and was home by 1.45am.
Would definitely like to go to Miami again, next time think I might do some sightseeing.
